The South Asia Left Democratic Alliance (SALDA) aims to defend
and extend the space for progressive politics in South Asia and
Canada.
SALDA is committed to fighting for social justice, radical democracy
and secularism. It works to oppose sectarianism and oppression based
on religion, gender, race, sexual orientation, caste, class or ethnicity.
SALDA defends and promotes civil liberties, especially by opposing
state terrorism in the form of militarization, surveillance and
targeted policing. SALDA also joins other groups to resist the deepening
grip of global capital and challenges the entrenchment of the neo-liberal
agenda in South Asia.
SALDA builds alliances with individuals and groups to combat the
rise of the religious right in South Asia and across the world.
We share information, organize panel discussions, present speakers
and intervene in the public sphere in Canada and South Asia. SALDA
functions as a collective and is explicitly activist in its approach.
It seeks to make links with and support other organizations and
initiatives that further its mandate.
SALDA welcomes all those who identify with its
anti-oppression and anti-exploitation platform and want to be active
in its work.
